Keep in mind a couple rules;
The oil you drain out of your engine, needs to be disposed of properly! Please check with your local county guidelines for motor oil disposal.
Never over fill your oil! Please consult your owner manual for the proper amount and capacity of your engine's oil.
Overfilling your engine oil will lead to major problems!
The biggest concern is over filling the oil to the crank shaft. When overfull the crank shaft can come into contact with the oil. The constant revolving of the shaft will cause the oil to be "whipped" or it will froth up. The problem with frothy, full of air bubbles oil is that your oil pump will not be able to pump the oil through the engine as needed. Once the oil pump hits an air pocket from whipped oil it will lose the vacuum and only be pushing air through the engine!
Keep in mind some oil filters can hold up to a half quart of oil. Your manual will usually state the crank case capacity of oil.
To start with, you have to find the drain plug on your oil pan. This is usually found at the bottom of the oil pan, which is at the bottom of your engine.
Once you've found that, you need to place the drain pan under that area before undoing the plug!
So after you've completed your oil change. The drain plug is securely back in place, your oil filter is replaced, you may want to run the vehicle or drive it for a few miles. After running or driving it a little check the level of your oil. Top it off if necessary!
